I lost my border collie, Henry, over two years ago. He still crosses my mind frequently and sometimes I imagine him walking with me and my supermutt, Bodhi.
I'm not overdramatizing when I say that Henry saved my life. He was with me throughout the darkest period of my life. But, it wasn’t just because of his unconditional love, although that is nothing to sneeze at, it was because rain or shine – this high energy pup needed a walk.
There were times I would curse that fact. Especially when I was feeling depressed and wanted to curl up in a corner and pretend the world wasn’t spinning. But, with a festive jaunt across the room, he would remind me that it was time to go outside.
I didn’t mind our winter walks, we often had the Emerald Necklace of Jamaica Plain to ourselves. We would trudge through the snow and forge our own path. And for a moment it was only him and I in the world. I would smile watching him run ahead, then bound back to me to check in (a herder through and through).
While I would feel lighter upon returning, it wasn’t until years later I would realize that accumulative time in nature has a direct impact on your mental health. Making me wonder... would I still be here if my golden StarFox hadn’t been pioneering our daily constitutions??
All I know is that on multiple levels, that dog saved my life.
The Power of the Natural World
Have you ever had an experience out in nature that soothed your soul?
Whether it’s the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze or the feel of the Earth beneath your feet, nature has an incredible way of bringing us back to the present, offering peace and perspective.
If you’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed lately, you’re not alone. In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel disconnected. But there’s a foolproof resource that is always available to you—the great outdoors. Keep reading to explore a guided meditation designed to help you tap into the grounding, peaceful energy of the Earth.
After following this meditation, feel free to drop your experiences with nature in the comments and make sure to check out 4-mantras to heal anything. Now, — let’s reconnect.
Body and Breath: Grounding in the Present Moment
To begin, find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Sit comfortably with your spine straight and gently close your eyes. Take a few moments to settle in, allowing your breath to flow naturally. Let go of any distractions or worries. This time is just for you.
Visualization: Connecting with Nature’s Beauty
Now, picture yourself standing before a field of vibrant wildflowers. To your right, majestic mountains rise into the sky, while to your left, a vast body of water sparkles in the sunlight. You are surrounded by the most breathtaking landscape you’ve ever seen. As you breathe in the crisp air, find yourself feeling completely at ease, grounded, and centered.
As you walk toward the golden meadow, notice how the wind gently carves a path ahead for you. Flowers and grasses sway in harmony with the breeze, and with each step, the Earth’s nurturing energy rises up to greet your body. Everything around you feels alive, breathing in perfect rhythm. Take a deep breath and expand into the awe and wonder of the natural world.
Manifestation & True Desires: Envisioning a World of Harmony
In your imagination, find yourself the ideal place to rest, you may choose to sit beneath a tree or lie down in the grass comfortably and effortlessly. Feel a wave of ease and safety wash over you. The Earth is supporting you, grounding you, allowing your body to completely relax.
From this place, envision a world of peace and harmony. Imagine that the planet's ecosystems are balanced and all life on Earth is flourishing. What role do you want to play in this world? Let your imagination take you there, painting the picture of your wildest dreams coming true.
Gratitude and Integration: Finding Peace Within
As you wrap up your meditation, take a moment to express deep gratitude for the Earth. Know that the peace you’ve cultivated within yourself is always accessible and your Angels and Spirit Guides are always showering you with love and support.
Gently come back to your breath, absorbing the calm, strength, and balance that nature provides. Ready to carry this sense of peace with you into your day.
